Method
Prep
Chill and prepare
Place a highball or Collins glass in the refrigerator or fill it with ice to chill while preparing the cocktail. Keep tonic water chilled.
Build and Mix
Add spirits and shake
Add 2 oz gin to the shaker. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.
Double strain
Remove the chilling ice from the glass if used. Fill the chilled glass with fresh ice (about 1 cup). Double-strain the shaken mixture into the glass over the fresh ice to keep bits of cucumber and lychee out, using a fine mesh strainer in addition to the shaker strainer.
Finish and Garnish
Top with tonic
Gently top the cocktail with 3 oz chilled tonic water. Pour slowly down the side of the glass to preserve carbonation and create a light layering effect.
