Method

Base

  1. 1

If you haven't already, make cold-brewed black tea by steeping 2 tablespoons of coarsely crushed black tea leaves in 3 cups cold water in the refrigerator for 8–12 hours; strain and keep chilled. Measure 1.5 cups of the cold-brewed black tea and pour into a chilled mixing glass or pitcher.

  2. 2

Add 0.5 cup chilled sparkling water to the tea and gently stir once to combine. This creates a lightly effervescent base without warmth.

Citrus & Brighteners

  1. 3

Add 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice and 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice to the tea-sparkling base. These provide bright acidity that balances the tea's tannins.

  2. 4

Drop in 3 teaspoons orange blossom water a little at a time, tasting after each addition. Orange blossom is potent; 3 tsp gives a soft floral lift that neutralizes heavy notes without heating the palate.

Sweetener

  1. 5

Stir in 1 tablespoon light honey syrup (made by dissolving equal parts honey and hot water and cooling). Adjust up to 1/2 tablespoon more if you prefer a sweeter drink. Make sure the syrup is fully incorporated.

Herbal & Aromatic

  1. 6

Lightly bruise 6 g fresh mint leaves between your palms to release oils, then add them and 1/4 cup thin cucumber slices to the pitcher. Gently muddle once or twice with the back of a spoon — just enough to release aroma and a little juice from cucumber without creating a vegetal paste.

  2. 7

    Rest

Let the mixture sit chilled for 2–3 minutes so flavors marry and the herbal aromatics infuse.

  3. 8

Taste and, if the tea feels too astringent, add an additional 1/2 teaspoon honey syrup and stir.

Ice & Finish

  1. 9

Fill a serving glass with large ice cubes (about 1 cup). Strain the chilled mixture over the ice to avoid excess muddled bits, or pour gently if you prefer the cucumber and mint left in the glass.

  2. 10

Garnish with a thin lemon wheel on the rim and a light scatter (about 1/4 tsp) of freshly grated lemon zest over the top for immediate aroma.

  3. 11

Serve immediately with a short stirring straw. Encourage the drinker to stir once before sipping to re-suspend any settling oils.
