Method
Strawberry Purée
- 1
Prepare and sweeten berries
Place the hulled and quartered strawberries in a medium bowl. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons sugar and 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice over the berries. Toss gently and let macerate at room temperature for 10 minutes to soften and draw out juices.
- 2
Blend to purée
Transfer the macerated strawberries and any accumulated liquid to a blender. Add 2 tablespoons water. Blend on high until completely smooth (about 30–45 seconds). If purée is too thick for stirring, add up to 1 more tablespoon water and pulse to combine. Taste and adjust sweetness—add up to 1 teaspoon additional sugar if needed, blending briefly. Strain the purée through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl, pressing with a spatula to remove seeds for a silky texture (optional). Yield: about 1 to 1 1/4 cups purée.
- 3
Chill the purée in the refrigerator while you prepare the lemonade, or keep at room temperature if serving immediately.

Make simple syrup (if not prepared)
If you do not have simple syrup ready, combine 1 cup granulated sugar with 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium, stirring occasionally, until sugar dissolves and syrup is clear. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Refrigerate until cold. (You can reduce quantity if you prefer less sweetness.)

Mix lemonade
In a large pitcher, combine 1 cup fresh lemon juice and 4 cups cold water. Add 1 cup chilled simple syrup and stir until combined. Taste and adjust: add additional syrup to sweeten, or more water to dilute if too strong. Chill if needed.
- 6
Stir gently before assembling drinks so lemonade and any settled components are uniform.

Build each glass
Fill four 12- to 16-ounce glasses with 1/2 cup ice each (about 4 cups total divided). Spoon 2 tablespoons (about 1 oz) of chilled strawberry purée into the bottom of each glass.

For pitcher service: layer the purée into the pitcher first (about 1 to 1 1/4 cups purée), pour in 5–6 cups lemonade and gently stir to distribute. Add ice to glasses rather than the pitcher to avoid dilution.
