Cocktail
Garnish & optional
Method
Prepare glass (optional)
- 1
Sugar rim (optional)
If you want a sugared rim, pour 1 teaspoon granulated sugar onto a small plate. Moisten the lip of a warmed Irish coffee glass or heatproof mug with a little hot coffee by swirling, then dip the rim lightly into the sugar so it adheres. Set the glass aside.
Assemble cocktail
- 2
Preheat the glass briefly by filling it with hot water for about 30 seconds, then discard the water.
- 3
Add 1 teaspoon granulated sugar to the warmed glass.
- 4
Pour in 4 oz hot brewed strong coffee, then stir gently until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- 5
Add 1 oz Kahlúa and 1 oz brandy. Stir once gently to combine and warm the liqueurs with the coffee.
- 6
Top and garnish
Carefully float or dollop 2 tablespoons whipped cream on top so it sits above the coffee. Finish with a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg over the cream and an orange twist or peel on the rim if desired.
- 7
Serve immediately while hot. If you prepared a sugared rim, hold the glass by the handle or base to avoid disturbing the rim.
