Method
Prep
- 1
Chill a 35 oz mug or large glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes while you assemble ingredients. Measure all components. If using fresh strawberries, hull and halve them.
Make the Base
- 2
Combine liquids and ice cream
In a blender, add 2 cups whole milk, 2.5 cups vanilla ice cream, and 1/4 cup heavy cream.
- 3
Add flavor
Choose one flavor option: for chocolate add 4 tbs chocolate syrup; for strawberry add 4 tbs strawberry purée or syrup (and optionally 1/2 cup fresh strawberry halves); for extra-vanilla add 1 tsp vanilla extract. Add the chosen flavor to the blender.
- 4
If using optional mix-ins (0.25 cup chopped chocolate/chips or 0.5 cup fresh strawberries), add them now.
- 5
Taste & Adjust
- 6
Taste the milkshake. If too thick, add up to 2 tbs more milk and pulse; if too thin, add 1/4 cup more ice cream and blend briefly. For extra sweetness or stronger flavor, add 1 tbs syrup or 1/4 tsp vanilla as appropriate and blend 5–10 seconds.
Finish & Serve
- 7
- 8
Pour the milkshake into the 35 oz mug, leaving a little room at the top for whipped cream.
- 9
Top with 1/2 cup whipped cream, sprinkle 1 tsp crushed nuts or sprinkles, add a cookie or wafer if using, and finish with a maraschino cherry on top.
- 10
Serve immediately with a wide straw and long spoon.
