Coffee and water

Method
Preparation and brewing
- 1
Measure coffee
Measure 1/3 cup (about 5 tablespoons) of medium-ground coffee for every 5 cups (approx. 40 fl oz / 1.2 L) of brewed coffee. Use regular or decaf per preference.
- 2
Prepare brewer
Place a clean filter in the coffee maker's basket. Pour 1/4 cup filtered water through the empty filter and discard to rinse and preheat the basket (this removes paper taste and warms the brewer).
- 3
Add coffee
Add the measured medium-ground coffee to the filter, spreading it evenly.
- 4
Add water and start
Pour 5 cups of fresh cold water into the coffee maker's water reservoir. Start the brew cycle immediately.
- 5
Brewing time
Allow the coffee to brew completely — typically 5 to 7 minutes depending on the machine. Do not remove the carafe while the machine is running to avoid drips and inconsistent extraction.
- 6
Keep warm
Once brewing finishes, let the coffee sit on the machine's warming plate for up to 30 minutes. For best flavor, transfer to a thermal carafe if you will keep it longer.
