Tea & Water

Method

Brew Tea

  1. 1

    Bring water to a boil

Pour 2 cups of fresh cold water into a small saucepan or kettle. Heat until it reaches a rolling boil (about 2–4 minutes on high heat).

  2. 2

    Prepare tea

If using a tea bag, place the tea bag in a cup or teapot. If using 1 tsp loose-leaf tea, place it in an infuser or directly into the teapot/cup (you will strain later).

  3. 3

    Steep

Pour the just-boiled water over the tea bag or leaves. Steep for 3–5 minutes depending on desired strength: 3 minutes for light, 4 minutes for medium, 5 minutes for strong. If you added fresh ginger or a cinnamon stick, steep the spice with the tea.

  4. 4

    Remove tea

Take out the tea bag or remove the infuser/strain the leaves. If you steeped ginger or cinnamon in the cup, remove those now as well.

Finish & Serve

  1. 5

Sweeten and adjust: Stir in granulated sugar or honey to taste (start with 1 tsp). If adding milk, pour in about 2 tablespoons and stir. If you prefer lemon, add a slice of lemon instead of milk (do not add lemon and milk together).

  2. 6

Taste and adjust strength: If the tea is too strong, add a splash of hot water. If too weak, brew a little longer next time or add a second tea bag for a stronger cup.

  3. 7

Serve: Enjoy the hot tea immediately while warm. Use a saucer or coaster to protect surfaces.
