Fried Pie Dough

Method

Preparation and Cooking

1

Make the Dough

In a mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and baking powder. Cut in butter until the mixture is crumbly. Gradually add water until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface until smooth, about 5 minutes. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

2

Prepare the Filling

Choose your desired filling from apple pie filling, apricot preserves, chocolate chips, peach pie filling, or seasonal fruit filling.

3

Roll Out the Dough

On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut into circles using a biscuit cutter or a glass.

4

Fill and Seal Pies

Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold over and seal the edges with a fork or by crimping.

5

Fry the Pies

Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add the pies to the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

6

Serve

While still warm, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar before serving.
