Method
Tea Base
Measure & Combine
Place 2 tsp whole-leaf green tea, 1 tsp dried hibiscus, and 1 tsp dried butterfly pea flower into a small teapot or heatproof infuser. These three create the Mystic Rainforest color and base: green tea for body, hibiscus for tartness and red tones, and butterfly pea for vibrant blue that shifts with acidity.
Heat Water
Bring 10 oz (about 300 ml) of fresh spring water to a temperature of 175–185°F (80–85°C). If you don't have a thermometer, bring water almost to a boil and let it rest 1 minute to cool slightly.
Steep
Pour the hot water over the combined leaves and flowers. Steep uncovered for 3 minutes for a balanced cup. For a brighter color and more tartness, steep up to 4 minutes; for a milder, greener cup, reduce to 2 minutes.
Aromatics & Flavor
Infuse Aromatics
While the tea steeps, add 1 tablespoon thinly sliced fresh ginger, 1 bruised lemongrass stalk (cut into pieces), and 1 tsp fresh lime zest into the teapot or an infuser basket with the tea so their oils and aroma extract into the hot water. Ginger adds warmth, lemongrass gives citrusy depth, and lime zest will interact with the butterfly pea for color shift.
Sweeten
After steeping 3 minutes, remove the leaves/flowers and aromatics (or strain into a serving vessel). While still warm, stir in 1 tablespoon light honey or agave. Taste and adjust sweetness to taste — add up to another 1 tsp if desired.
Finish & Serve
Serve Hot
Pour the finished tea into a warmed cup. Garnish with a thin lime wheel and 2–3 fresh mint leaves. The lime will produce a subtle color shift (blue to purple/pink) where it contacts the tea from the butterfly pea. Sip and enjoy warm.
Serve Iced (Optional)
To serve iced, fill a tall glass with 1 cup ice. Pour the warm tea over the ice to chill quickly. Garnish with a lime wedge and mint sprig. If you want a pronounced color change, squeeze a few drops of lime juice into the glass after pouring — the acidity will shift the butterfly pea's color and create a layered visual effect.
Storage
Any leftover brewed tea can be refrigerated in a covered pitcher for up to 48 hours. Do not add ice before storing. Re-garnish with fresh mint and lime when serving later.
