Method

Bottle

1

Storage and serving temperature

Store the Hennessy V.S.O.P upright in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and large temperature swings. Serve neat at room temperature (18–22°C / 64–72°F) or slightly cool the bottle in a cellar or refrigerator for 15–30 minutes if you prefer a cooler pour.

2

Decanting (optional)

If the bottle has been tightly closed for a long time, open and let the cognac breathe for 10–15 minutes in the bottle or decant into a clean glass decanter to allow aromas to open before serving.

3

Standard neat pour

Pour 45 ml (1.5 fl oz) of Hennessy V.S.O.P into a tulip-shaped cognac glass or a rocks glass warmed briefly in your hands. Swirl gently to release aromas, then smell deeply before tasting.

On the rocks

4

Prepare glass

Place 1–2 large ice cubes into a rocks glass. Large cubes melt slower and reduce dilution.

5

Pour 45 ml of Hennessy V.S.O.P over the ice. Let sit for 30–60 seconds to chill and slightly dilute. Swirl gently once and taste; add a tiny splash (around 5–15 ml) of filtered water if you want to open more aromas.

6

Serve with an orange twist on the rim or floated in the glass to add a subtle citrus aroma.

Highball (Hennessy & soda)

7

Build the drink

Fill a highball or Collins glass with ice to the top. Pour 45 ml of Hennessy V.S.O.P over the ice.

8

Top with 120 ml chilled mineral water or soda to taste. Gently stir once with a bar spoon to integrate without over-diluting.

9

Garnish with an orange twist or wheel and serve with a straw.

Tasting notes & pairing

10

When tasting neat, take small sips and let the cognac coat your palate. Note the rich notes of dried fruit, toasted oak, vanilla, and spice characteristic of V.S.O.P blends. Pair with dark chocolate, nuts, hard cheeses, or simply enjoy on its own as an after-dinner spirit.
