Coffee

Method

Prepare Water and Coffee

1

Heat water

Fill a kettle or pot with enough fresh cold water (about 12 oz per serving) and heat until just off-boil, about 200–205°F (93–96°C). If you don't have a thermometer, bring to a full boil and let sit 30 seconds.

2

Measure coffee

Measure 2 tablespoons of freshly ground medium-ground coffee per 12 oz cup (use 1 tbs per 6 oz for a milder brew). Adjust to taste.

Brew

3

Choose your brewing method: - French press: Add grounds to the carafe, pour in hot water, stir gently, place lid with plunger up, steep 3:30–4 minutes, then press down steadily and pour immediately. - Pour-over: Place a filter in the cone, rinse with hot water then discard rinse, add grounds, pour a small amount of water to bloom for 30–45 seconds, then continue pouring slowly in concentric circles until you reach 12 oz. Total brew time ~2:30–3:30 minutes. - Drip machine: Add grounds to the filter and start machine. Brew completes automatically. - Percolator: Follow manufacturer instructions, aiming for a 4–6 minute brew after boiling begins for a single cup equivalent. If you only have instant coffee, dissolve 1–2 teaspoons of instant in 12 oz hot water and skip the above steps.

Finish and Serve

4

Pour the freshly brewed coffee into a warmed mug (rinse mug with hot water to keep coffee hot).

5

Add optional milk or cream (about 2 tbs), sugar (about 1 tsp), or flavored syrup as desired. Stir with a spoon until combined.

6

Garnish with a light dusting (≈1/4 tsp) of ground cinnamon or cocoa if desired. Taste and adjust sweetness or milk to preference.

7

Serve immediately while hot.
