Chill glass (optional)
If desired, place an old-fashioned glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare ingredients to slightly chill the glass; discard ice water before proceeding.
Add the simple syrup, Angostura bitters, cherry bitters, and orange bitters to a mixing glass or the chilled old-fashioned glass. Stir briefly to combine the bitters with the syrup.
Pour 2 oz Bulleit Rye into the mixing glass (or into the old-fashioned glass if you're building the drink).
Add a large ice cube (or several large ice cubes) to the glass. Stir gently for about 20–30 seconds in a mixing glass with a bar spoon, or if built in the serving glass, stir until the drink is well chilled and slightly diluted (about 20 seconds).
If you used a mixing glass, strain the chilled cocktail over a fresh large ice cube in the old-fashioned glass.
Serve immediately. Optionally offer a cocktail cherry on the side or dropped into the drink.
