Cocktail Base
Blackberry Purée & Garnish
Ice
Method
Blackberry Purée
Muddle and Strain
Place 5 fresh blackberries in a mixing glass or small jar. Muddle thoroughly until broken down and juicy (about 20–30 seconds). Add 1/2 oz simple syrup to help macerate. Optionally press the muddled berries through a fine mesh strainer into a small bowl using the back of a spoon to yield a smooth purée (about 0.5 oz purée). Discard seeds and skins or reserve a small spoonful for a more rustic texture.
Cocktail Assembly
Shake
Add 2 oz gin, 0.5 oz St. Germain, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz simple syrup, and the strained blackberry purée (about 0.5 oz) into a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker with ice, secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until well-chilled.
Strain
Double-strain the mixture (using both the shaker’s strainer and a fine mesh strainer) into a chilled old-fashioned glass filled with crushed ice or into a rocks glass with fresh ice, depending on preference.
Finish & Garnish
Gently spoon any remaining blackberry purée or a small extra blackberry onto the top of the drink for visual contrast. Thread a fresh blackberry onto a cocktail pick and rest it on the rim, and add a lemon wheel on the side. Optionally lightly bruise a lemon wheel over the glass to release oils before garnishing.
Serving Suggestion
Serve immediately with a short cocktail straw. Encourage guests to stir gently so the blackberries swirl through the drink as they sip.
