Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.

2

Measure and add ingredients

Add 2 oz gin, 0.75 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice, 0.5 oz maraschino liqueur, 0.25 oz crème de violette, and 0.25 oz simple syrup (optional) into a cocktail shaker.

3

Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup or until roughly 2/3 full). Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is very cold and well diluted.

4

Prepare glass

Remove the chilled glass from the freezer or discard the ice water and dry the glass.

5

Double strain and serve

Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove small ice shards and any lemon pulp, producing a clear, silky drink.

Garnish

6

Thread one maraschino cherry on a cocktail pick or drop it directly into the center of the glass. Express a lemon twist over the drink (optional) and discard or rest on the rim.

Final

7

Serve immediately. The Aviation should present a pale, slightly floral violet hue with bright citrus notes and a hint of cherry from the maraschino.
