Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare

Chill a coupe or martini glass by filling with ice and water while you mix the cocktail.

  2. 2

Dry shake (if using egg white)

In a cocktail shaker, combine vodka (2 oz), elderflower liqueur (0.75 oz), fresh lemon juice (0.75 oz), simple syrup (0.5 oz) and egg white (0.5 oz, optional). Seal the shaker and shake vigorously without ice for 10–15 seconds to emulsify and build a frothy texture.

  3. 3

    Wet shake

Add ice (about 1 cup, or enough to fill the shaker) to the shaker. Seal and shake hard for 12–15 seconds until well chilled (the shaker should frost on the outside).

  4. 4

    Strain

Discard ice and water from the chilled glass. Double-strain the cocktail into the glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer (or a julep strainer) to achieve a smooth surface and remove any ice shards and foam bits.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 5

Garnish with a thin lemon wheel or twist laid on the surface and place an edible flower on top (if using). Serve immediately.
