Strawberry Margarita

Method

Strawberry Margarita

  1. 1

    Prepare the glass

Run the lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or margarita glass. Pour the coarse salt or sugar onto a small plate, then dip the moistened rim into the salt/sugar to coat. Set the glass aside to let the rim set while you make the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Prep strawberries

If using large strawberries, quarter them. If they are small, halve them. If strawberries are underripe, sprinkle the optional 0.5 tsp muddling sugar over the fruit to help release juices.

  3. 3

    Muddle or puree strawberries

Place the hulled strawberries into a blender or cocktail shaker. If using a shaker and want fresh-texture margarita, muddle thoroughly until broken down and juicy. If using a blender for a frozen-style drink, blend the strawberries until smooth before adding other ingredients.

  4. 4

    Combine cocktail ingredients

To the blender (or shaker) add 2 oz silver tequila, 1 oz triple sec, 1 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup. If making a frozen margarita, add 1 cup ice to the blender. If making a shaken-on-ice margarita, add a generous handful of ice to the shaker.

  5. 5

    Blend or shake

Frozen: Blend on high until smooth and slushy, about 20–30 seconds depending on blender strength. Shaken: Secure the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until well chilled and slightly frothy. If you muddled in a shaker, double-strain through a fine mesh to remove seeds and pulp if you prefer a smoother drink.

  6. 6

    Taste and adjust

Quickly taste a small amount. If the drink is too tart, add up to 0.25–0.5 oz more simple syrup and blend/shake briefly. If too sweet, add a splash (0.25 oz) more lime juice. If the strawberry intensity is low, add a few more pieces and re-blend/shake.

  7. 7

    Serve

Pour the blended or strained cocktail into the prepared glass. Garnish with a fresh strawberry on the rim and a lime wedge. Serve immediately.
