Cocktail
Chill glass
Place a martini or coupe glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes (or fill with ice water while you prepare the cocktail) to ensure the drink stays cold and maintains a glossy crema.
Brew espresso
If you haven't prepared espresso yet, brew one shot (about 1 oz). Allow it to cool for 30–60 seconds — it should still be hot or warm so it helps extract crema when shaken, but not scalding.
Combine ingredients
Into a cocktail shaker add the ice cubes, 2 oz vodka, 1 oz coffee liqueur, 1 oz freshly brewed espresso, 0.5 oz green crème de menthe, and 0.25 oz simple syrup.
Dry shake (optional for extra crema)
For a frothier crema, first close the shaker and shake vigorously without ice for 10 seconds to emulsify the espresso and liqueurs.
Wet shake
Add the ice if you haven't already (or keep ice in shaker) and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the shaker is very cold to the touch and a glossy crema forms.
Strain
Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled martini/coupe glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove tiny ice shards and ensure a silky surface.
Garnish & Finish
Garnish immediately with 3 espresso beans placed on the crema. If desired, lightly dust the surface with 1/4 tsp finely grated dark chocolate or a small pinch of cocoa powder for contrast and aroma.
Serve immediately while the crema is fresh and the drink is cold.
