Fill a highball glass (or an old fashioned/rocks glass if preferred) with ice cubes until nearly full.
Pour 1 oz Campari over the ice.
Add 1 oz sweet vermouth to the glass.
Gently stir the Campari and vermouth together with a bar spoon for about 10–15 seconds to chill and slightly dilute.
Give the drink one gentle, brief stir to integrate the soda—do not over-stir or you’ll lose carbonation.
Garnish
Express the oils of an orange twist over the drink or place a fresh orange slice on the rim. Drop the twist or slice into the glass.
Serve
Serve immediately while cold and slightly effervescent.
