Cooking Directions
Rinse the Rice
In a fine-mesh strainer, rinse 1 cup of long-grain white rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps to remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming gummy.
Boil the Water
In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, add 1 teaspoon of salt and stir to dissolve.
Add Rice
Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed rice to the saucepan. Stir briefly to ensure even distribution.
Simmer the Rice
Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, and let the rice simmer for about 18-20 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed.
Fluff the Rice
After the cooking time, remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes. Then, uncover, add 1 tablespoon of butter or olive oil, and fluff the rice gently with a fork.
Season the Rice
Add black pepper to taste and mix well. Serve the rice warm as a side dish.
