Method
Cocktail
- 1
Measure and add 2 oz white rum to the blender.
- 2
Add 4 oz pineapple juice to the blender.
- 3
Add 1.5 oz cream of coconut to the blender. If using a thicker paste-style cream of coconut, warm briefly or stir to loosen before measuring.
- 4
Add 3 oz fresh pineapple chunks for extra texture and a brighter flavor. If you prefer a smoother, more classic texture, omit the chunks or use crushed pineapple and strain after blending.
- 5
Add 0.5 oz fresh lime juice to brighten the sweetness and balance the drink.
- 6
Add 1.5 cups of ice to the blender. Use more or less ice to adjust thickness: more ice = thicker / slushier; less ice = thinner, more drinkable.
- 7
Blend
Secure the blender lid and blend on high for 20–45 seconds, or until the mixture is smooth and slushy with no large ice chunks. Stop and taste: the texture should be creamy and pourable. If excessively thick, add 0.5 oz pineapple juice and blend briefly; if too thin, add a few more ice cubes and blend 10–15 seconds.
- 8
Pour the blended Piña Colada into a chilled hurricane or Collins glass, leaving a little headroom for garnish.
Garnish
- 9
Garnish the glass with a pineapple wedge on the rim and thread a maraschino cherry onto a pick or place it on top.
- 10
If desired, grate a very small amount of fresh nutmeg over the top (a light dusting) to add warm aromatic contrast to the tropical flavors.
Serve
- 11
Serve immediately with a straw. Stir gently before drinking if the drink separates slightly. Enjoy responsibly.
