Cocktail

1

Prepare glass

Chill a coupe or Nick & Nora glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water while you build the cocktail.

2

Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add ice (about 6 cubes), 2 oz brandy, 0.75 oz Averna Amaro, 1 oz fresh orange juice, 0.5 oz sweetened condensed milk, and 0.5 oz chocolate liqueur.

3

Dry shake (optional)

For a silkier texture with the condensed milk, give the mixture a quick dry shake (no ice) for about 10 seconds to emulsify.

4

Shake with ice

Add ice to the shaker (if you dry-shook) and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until well chilled and slightly frothy.

5

Strain

Discard ice or water from the chilled glass and double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass using a Hawthorne and fine mesh strainer to remove any tiny ice shards and to keep the texture smooth.

6

Garnish and finish

Express the oils of an orange twist over the drink and rub it on the rim, then drop it into the glass. Sprinkle about 1 tsp grated dark chocolate or a few shavings on top and, if desired, rest an orange wheel on the rim.
