Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Cheese Sauce

In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute, stirring constantly until it forms a roux.

  3. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue cooking until the mixture thickens and comes to a simmer.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Cheeses

Reduce the heat to low and add the Fontina, Grana Padano, Gruyere, Gouda, and Brie cheeses. Stir until the cheeses are melted and the sauce is smooth.

  5. 5

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring until well combined. Season with salt, black pepper, and paprika.

  6. 6

    Optional Topping

If using breadcrumbs, sprinkle them over the top of the mac and cheese.

  7. 7

    Bake (optional)

Transfer to a greased baking dish and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes or until bubbly and golden on top.
