Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare jalapeño

Place 3 thin jalapeño slices in a cocktail shaker (reserve one thin slice for garnish). Muddle gently 6–8 times—enough to release spicy oils but not pulverize seeds. Taste a small muddled bit (optional) to judge heat level; remove seeds if you want milder spice.

  2. 2

    Add liquids

To the shaker with muddled jalapeño, add 2 oz Lunazul tequila, 1 oz triple sec, 2 tbsp fresh passion fruit pulp (scrape seeds and juice from about 1 medium passion fruit), 1 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup or agave. Add about 1 cup of ice.

  3. 3

    Shake

Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is cold and the drink is well chilled and slightly frothy from the passion fruit.

  4. 4

    Strain

If you prefer a seed-free cocktail, double-strain through a fine mesh strainer into the serving glass; otherwise, single strain to allow passion fruit seeds for texture. Pour over fresh ice in the serving glass.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 5

Rub the lime wedge around the rim of the serving glass and dip the rim lightly into coarse salt or Tajín. Add fresh ice if needed.

  2. 6

Finish by placing the reserved thin jalapeño wheel on the top of the cocktail and optionally float 1/2 passion fruit half (spooned pulp) on top for visual impact and extra aroma.

  3. 7

Serve immediately with a stirring straw. Advise guests that the drink is spicy and flavor will intensify as it sits.
