Method

Prep

1

Salt rim (optional)

If you want a salted rim, combine the kosher or smoked sea salt with the lime zest on a small plate. Rub the rim of a rocks glass with a lime wedge, then dip the rim lightly into the salt mixture. Set the glass aside to dry briefly.

2

Juice fresh limes to measure 0.75 oz (about 1 lime). Prepare agave nectar or simple syrup and measure ingredients. Have ice ready.

Mixing

3

Shake the cocktail

Add 2 oz Creyente Mezcal, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz agave nectar (or simple syrup), and 0.25 oz orange liqueur to a cocktail shaker. Fill the shaker halfway with cubed ice (about 3/4 cup).

4

Secure the shaker lid and shake hard for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold and well chilled.

5

Strain and serve

Strain the contents through a fine strainer or hawthorne into the prepared rocks glass over a large ice cube (or a few fresh cubes).

6

Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge placed on the rim or floated on top. Serve immediately.

Notes

7

Adjust sweetness to taste: increase agave by 0.25 oz for a sweeter cocktail or reduce by 0.25 oz for a tarter profile. If you prefer more citrus punch, increase lime juice by 0.25 oz. Using smoked sea salt on the rim complements the mezcal's smoky character.
