Sandwiches

Method

Sandwiches

1

Prepare produce

Wash lettuce leaves and pat dry. Slice the tomato into 1/4-inch thick rounds. Season tomato slices lightly with 1/4 teaspoon of the salt and a pinch of black pepper; set aside.

2

Cook bacon

Cook bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp, about 7–10 minutes, turning occasionally. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain. When cool, break each strip in half if you prefer shorter pieces.

3

Toast bread

Butter one side of each of the 6 bread slices lightly. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and toast the bread, buttered side down, until golden brown, about 2–3 minutes per side. Alternatively, use a toaster and butter after toasting.

4

Assemble first layer

Place one toasted slice, buttered side down, on a clean work surface. Spread 1 tablespoon (3 tsp) mayonnaise evenly on the top surface. Layer 3 oz turkey evenly across the slice, then add one slice of Swiss cheese. Top with a lettuce leaf and two tomato slices. Lightly sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon salt and a little black pepper.

5

Assemble middle layer

Place a second toasted slice on top of the tomatoes, buttered side up. Spread 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (or 1 tsp mayonnaise if not using mustard) on this slice. Add the ham slices (4 oz) evenly, then 2 strips of cooked bacon and one slice of American cheese.

6

Finish assembly

Top with the third toasted slice, buttered side up, and spread the remaining 2 teaspoons mayonnaise on the top. Add the remaining 3 oz turkey and one lettuce leaf. Place the final toasted slice on top, buttered side up. Press down gently to compact the sandwich.

7

Slice & serve

Using a sharp knife, cut the assembled sandwich diagonally into quarters, inserting a toothpick into each quarter to hold layers if desired. Serve immediately while bread is still slightly warm, with potato chips or fries on the side.

Spreads & Seasoning

8

Combine mayonnaise and Dijon mustard (if using) in a small bowl and stir until smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning with remaining salt and pepper as needed. Use specified amounts when assembling each layer so spreads are evenly distributed.

Toasts

9

If toasting in a skillet, maintain medium heat so bread browns evenly without burning. Butter the bread lightly to achieve a crisp, golden exterior that helps keep the sandwich sturdy.
