Preparation

1. Chill the beer: Ensure the Modelo Especial is well chilled (38–45°F / 3–7°C). Refrigerate for several hours or keep in an ice bucket until ready to serve.

2. Open and serve: Remove the cap and pour directly into a chilled beer glass or drink straight from the bottle. If pouring, tilt the glass at about 45 degrees and pour gently down the side; straighten the glass near the end to create a 1/2–1 inch (1–2.5 cm) head of foam.

3. Garnish (optional): If you like a hint of citrus, squeeze a lime wedge into the beer or drop the wedge into the glass. For a more classic Mexican-restaurant style, you may rim the glass with coarse salt before pouring and add the lime wedge after.

4. Rim the glass with salt

Run a lime slice around the outer edge of the glass rim, then gently dip the rim into a shallow plate of coarse salt so the salt adheres. Proceed to pour the beer as described above.

Serving with ice (not traditional)

5. If you prefer your beer very cold and slightly diluted (common in some regions), fill a glass with ice then pour the chilled beer over the ice. Add a lime wedge if desired.
