Cocktail Base

Method

Cocktail Base

1

Combine

Chill a stemmed wine glass or large rocks glass by filling it with ice and setting aside. In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz dry gin, 0.5 oz dry vermouth, 0.5 oz ouzo, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup.

2

Shake

Fill the shaker with ice, cap it, and shake briskly for 10–12 seconds until the outside of the shaker feels cold.

3

Prepare Glass

Discard the ice used to chill the glass and add 3–4 large fresh ice cubes to the glass.

Sparkle & Finish

4

Strain & Top

Double-strain the shaken cocktail into the prepared glass over the fresh ice. Top with ~2 oz club soda (adjust to taste) poured gently to preserve effervescence.

5

Garnish

Express a lemon twist over the drink to release oils, rub the peel on the rim if desired, and drop it in. Add a mint sprig for aroma and, if you like a savory Greek note, skewer and rest a Greek-style olive on the rim or drop into the drink.

6

Serve

Give the drink a gentle stir once or twice to integrate the soda without flattening it. Serve immediately while fizzy.
