Black Bean Patty Ingredients
Black Bean Patty Directions
1. Prepare the Black Beans
In a large mixing bowl, mash the cooked black beans using a fork or potato masher until mostly smooth but still slightly chunky. This will give the patties texture.
2. Sauté the Onion and Garlic
In a small skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent and fragrant, about 5 minutes. Allow to cool slightly before adding to the bean mixture.
3. Mix the Ingredients
Add the sautéed onion and garlic to the mashed black beans. Then, add breadcrumbs, cumin powder, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and the egg (or flax egg). Mix everything together until well combined. If the mixture is too wet, add more breadcrumbs as needed.
4. Form the Patties
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about 1/2 inch thick. Place the patties on a plate and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes to help them firm up.
5. Cook the Patties
In the same skillet, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties, being careful not to overcrowd the skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
6. Serve
Remove the patties from the skillet and place them on a paper towel to absorb excess oil. Serve warm with your favorite toppings such as lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, or a sauce of your choice.
