Build the drink

Fill an old-fashioned (rocks) glass with ice cubes until near top (about 1 cup of ice).

Add spirits

Pour 1 oz Campari over the ice, then pour 1 oz sweet vermouth into the glass.

Top with soda

Gently top the mixture with about 2 oz cold soda water. Pour slowly over the back of a spoon or down the side of the glass if you prefer a gentler mix and a layered look.

Light stir

Use a bar spoon to gently stir the drink 4–6 times to integrate the Campari, vermouth, and soda without over-diluting.

Garnish and serve

Express the oils of an orange twist over the glass by holding the twist skin-side down and giving it a short, firm squeeze, then drop it in (or rest an orange slice on the rim). Serve immediately with a straw if desired.
