Place the bottle of DeLoach Chardonnay in the refrigerator for 2 hours before serving. If you need to chill quickly, submerge the bottle in an ice bucket filled with equal parts ice and cold water for 15–20 minutes.

Chill the bottle

Choose a white wine or Chardonnay-style glass (moderate bowl with a slightly tapered rim). Ensure the glass is clean and free of detergent residue; rinse in room-temperature water shortly before pouring to remove any film.

Select and prepare glassware

Carefully cut the foil and use a waiter’s corkscrew to extract the cork. Wipe the bottle lip with a clean napkin. If the bottle is screw-top, remove the cap and wipe the rim.

Open the bottle

Pour 4–6 ounces (120–180 ml) per serving into the prepared glass, filling to roughly one-third to one-half of the glass to allow the aromas to concentrate. If serving multiple guests, pour a small taste first for any needed approval, then finish pouring.

Pouring

Offer a small bowl of thinly sliced chilled green apple or pear alongside the wine to highlight the wine’s fruit profile. These should be very cold but not frozen.

Present with light accompaniments

If desired, express a lemon or grapefruit twist over the glass by holding the twist skin-side down above the wine and giving it a quick snap so the oils spray onto the surface. Rim the glass with the twist and optionally drop it in as garnish.

Serve the wine at 50–54°F (10–12°C). Encourage guests to sniff first to detect bright citrus aromas (grapefruit, lemon, orange peel) and then take a small sip to notice green apple and pear flavors leading into a crisp, mineral finish. Allow the bottle to breathe for 10–15 minutes after opening to let aromas open further.
