Method
Prepare Mac and Cheese
- 1
Cook the Pasta
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add 1 cup of elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- 2
Make the Cheese Sauce
In a saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden. Gradually add 1 cup of milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens. Stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, 1 teaspoon of salt, 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper, 0.5 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 0.5 teaspoon of onion powder until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
- 3
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Mix the cooked elbow macaroni into the cheese sauce until evenly coated. Transfer the mixture to a greased dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until firm.
Prepare for Frying

Form the Balls
Once the mac and cheese mixture is firm, scoop out portions and roll them into balls, about 1-2 inches in diameter.
- 5
Prepare Breading Stations
Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with 0.5 cups of flour, one with 2 beaten eggs, and another with 1 cup of bread crumbs.
Fry the Mac and Cheese Balls
- 6
Bread the Balls
Take each mac and cheese ball, roll it in flour, dip it in the beaten eggs, and then coat it with bread crumbs, ensuring they are fully covered.
- 7
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat 2 cups of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 8
Fry the Balls
Carefully add the breaded mac and cheese balls to the hot oil in batches, frying them for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
