Edamame

Garnish (optional)

Method

Edamame

  1. 1

    Bring water to a boil

Pour 8 cups of water into a medium saucepan and bring to a rolling boil over high heat.

  2. 2

    Cook edamame

Add 3 cups frozen shelled edamame to the boiling water. Return to a gentle boil and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until heated through and bright green. Do not overcook — edamame should be tender but slightly firm.

  3. 3

    Drain and cool

Drain edamame in a colander and immediately rinse briefly with cold water or plunge into an ice-water bath for 30–60 seconds to stop cooking. Drain very well and transfer to a mixing bowl.

Seasoning & Finish

  1. 4

    Salt and oil

While edamame is still slightly warm, drizzle 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil over it and sprinkle 1 teaspoon fine sea salt evenly. Toss gently but thoroughly so the salt and oil coat the edamame.

  2. 5

    Optional bright finish

If using, add 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest and toss again to distribute. The zest adds brightness without increasing salt.

  3. 6

    Optional garnish

For added texture and a mild nutty note, sprinkle 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds and 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper over the edamame and toss lightly.

  4. 7

    Serve

Transfer to a serving bowl and serve immediately as a warm snack or side. Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days and served cold or gently reheated.
