Cake Preparation
- 1
Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a medium-sized microwave-safe bowl, combine the unsweetened chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until completely melted and smooth.
- 2
Combine Ingredients
Once melted, remove the bowl from the microwave and stir in the granulated sugar. Allow the mixture to cool slightly before adding the eggs and egg yolks. Whisk until well combined.
- 3
Add Flavorings
Stir in the vanilla extract, followed by the all-purpose flour and a pinch of salt. Mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- 4
- 5
Fill Ramekins
Divide the cake batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.
- 6
Bake
Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are firm but the center is still soft. The tops should look set but may still appear glossy.
- 7
Cool Slightly
Remove the ramekins from the oven and let them cool for 1-2 minutes. This will make it easier to invert them without breaking.
- 8
Invert and Serve
Carefully run a knife around the edges of each ramekin to loosen the cake. Invert them onto individual dessert plates. Serve immediately while warm.
Serving Instructions
- 9
Add Ice Cream
Top each molten lava cake with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- 10
Dust with Powdered Sugar
Sprinkle a little powdered sugar over the ice cream and cake for an elegant presentation.
