Cocktail

Method

Prepare the Smoked Salt Rim

  1. 1

    Rim mix

On a small plate, combine smoked sea salt and coarse kosher salt (if using). Spread into an even shallow layer large enough to rim your glass.

  2. 2

    Wet the rim

Run the lime wedge around the outside rim of a chilled rocks or coupe glass (or margarita glass) to moisten evenly. Do not over-wet — you want a thin, sticky line.

  3. 3

Gently press the moistened rim into the smoked salt mixture, rotating to coat evenly. Tap off any loose salt. Set the prepared glass aside.

Mix the Margarita

  1. 4

Add 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice (about 1 medium lime), and 0.5 oz agave syrup to a cocktail shaker.

  2. 5

Fill the shaker with the listed shaking ice cubes (about 6 cubes). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker becomes frosty and the mixture is well-chilled and slightly diluted.

  3. 6

Place serving ice into the prepared glass (if using a rocks glass) or leave the glass chilled/empty for a straight-up coupe. Strain the cocktail through a fine strainer or cocktail strainer into the prepared glass.

Finish & Garnish

  1. 7

Garnish with the reserved lime wedge on the rim or floated on the drink. Optionally express a small lime twist over the surface to add aromatic oils, then drop it in.

  2. 8

Serve immediately with a small napkin to catch any salt flakes.
