Method

For the Mozzarella Sticks

1

Prepare the Cheese

Remove the mozzarella sticks from their packaging and freeze them for at least 30 minutes. This will help them hold their shape while frying.

2

Set Up Breading Station

In three separate shallow dishes, place the flour in the first dish, beat the eggs in the second dish, and mix the breadcrumbs with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in the third dish.

3

Bread the Cheese Sticks

Take a frozen mozzarella stick and coat it in flour, shaking off any excess. Then dip it in the beaten eggs, and finally coat it in the breadcrumb mixture. Press the breadcrumbs onto the cheese stick to ensure they adhere well. Repeat for all mozzarella sticks.

4

Fry the Cheese Sticks

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Carefully add a few mozzarella sticks to the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

For the Marinara Sauce

5

Prepare the Marinara Sauce

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

6

Simmer the Sauce

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir well and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. If desired, stir in fresh chopped basil just before serving.
