1

Chill the mug

If possible, place the copper mug in the freezer for 5–10 minutes beforehand to get it very cold. If you don't have time, fill the mug with ice and set aside while assembling ingredients, then discard that ice before building the drink.

2

Add vodka and lime

Remove the mug from the freezer or discard the cooling ice. Add 2 oz vodka and 0.5 oz fresh lime juice to the mug using a jigger to measure accurately. If you prefer a slightly sweeter mule, add 0.25 oz simple syrup now.

3

Fill with ice

Add about 1 cup of cubed ice to the mug, filling it nearly to the top. Using plenty of ice keeps the drink cold and preserves carbonation.

4

Top with ginger beer

Pour 4 oz ginger beer over the ice slowly to maintain fizz. Do not stir vigorously; a gentle stir (1–2 rotations with a bar spoon) is sufficient to incorporate ingredients without flattening the ginger beer.

Garnish & Serve

5

Gently squeeze a lime wedge over the drink to release a bit more juice, then drop the wedge or place a lime wheel on the rim. Clap a fresh mint sprig between your palms once to wake its aroma and tuck it beside the lime if using. Serve immediately with a short straw.

Equipment Care

6

If you used a copper mug, wash by hand with mild detergent and warm water; avoid abrasive scrubbers and dishwashers to preserve the finish.
