Method

Cocktail

1

Prepare glass (optional smoked rim)

If using a smoked salt rim, combine the smoked salt and finely grated orange zest on a small plate. Rub the outside (not the inside) of an old fashioned glass with the orange peel to moisten just the rim area, then dip the rim lightly into the salt-zest mixture so a thin ring adheres. Set the glass aside.

2

Combine ingredients

Add the reposado tequila (2 oz), mezcal (0.25 oz), agave nectar (0.5 tbs), Angostura bitters (3 dashes) and orange bitters (1 dash) into a mixing glass. If you prefer to build directly in the serving glass, skip the mixing glass and add directly to the prepared glass.

3

Add ice and stir

Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes. Stir gently with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted (strain if you used a mixing glass). If building in the serving glass, add a single large ice cube and stir gently for 20 seconds to chill and marry flavors.

4

Finish and garnish

Strain into the prepared old fashioned glass over a single large ice cube (or keep the stirred cube if built in glass). Express an orange peel: hold it over the glass and gently squeeze/ twist to release the oils across the surface, then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the drink. Add a Luxardo or brandied cherry on a pick, if using.

5

Serve immediately with a short straw or simply as-is. Sip slowly to appreciate the balance of the tequila's warmth, mezcal smoke, bitters complexity, and agave sweetness.

Tools & cleanup

6

Rinse and dry the bar spoon, jigger and mixing glass. Wipe the serving glass if any salt or zest fell on the outside. Store unused bitters and open agave syrup refrigerated if applicable.
