Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or a chilled rocks glass in the freezer for 5 minutes (or fill with ice water while you prepare the cocktail) to ensure the drink stays cold.

2

Combine spirits and citrus

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice (about 3/4 full). Add 1.5 oz gin, 1.5 oz elderflower liqueur, 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup to the shaker.

3

Shake

Firmly seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is frosty and well chilled.

4

Strain

Discard the ice from your chilled glass (if you used ice water). Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or a rocks glass filled halfway with fresh ice using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove small ice shards and any pulp.

5

Top with soda

Gently top the cocktail with 2 oz club soda. Stir very gently once to incorporate — just one or two slow swirls to preserve effervescence.

6

Garnish and serve

Express a lemon twist over the drink to release oils, run it around the rim if desired, and drop it in as garnish. Alternatively, float an edible flower on top. Serve immediately.
