Preparation and assembly

1

Chill glassware

Optional: Place a highball glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you gather ingredients so the finished drink stays colder longer.

2

Fill a highball or Collins glass about three-quarters full with fresh ice cubes (approximately the 1 cup of ice listed).

3

Pour in the grenadine syrup first so it settles toward the bottom and creates the classic gradient: measure and add 0.5 oz grenadine to the glass.

4

Add the fresh lime juice (0.25 oz) over the grenadine to brighten the flavor. If you prefer no citrus, omit this step or substitute a few drops of lemon juice to taste.

5

Pour the chilled ginger ale (6 oz) slowly into the glass over the back of a spoon or down the side to help keep the layered appearance. Then add the lemon-lime soda (2 oz) on top. The soda blend creates a balanced sweetness and effervescence.

6

Gently stir once or twice with a bar spoon if you want a uniformly pink drink. For the signature layered look, do not stir.

7

Garnish: Skewer a maraschino cherry and rest it on the rim or drop it into the glass. Add the lime wheel or half wedge to the rim if using.

8

Serve immediately with a straw and a small napkin. Provide a stirrer if you left the layers for presentation so the guest can mix if desired.
