Cocktail

Method

Preparation

1

Chill glass

Place a martini or coupe glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes, or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink to thoroughly chill.

2

Optional rinse

If using an orange liqueur rinse: pour 0.25 tsp of orange liqueur into the chilled glass, swirl to coat the interior, then discard any excess. This adds a faint citrus layer beneath the gin.

Mixing

3

Fill a mixing glass or cocktail shaker with 1 cup of ice. Add 2 oz Empress 1908 Gin, 0.5 oz dry vermouth, and 2 dashes of orange bitters.

4

Stir, don't shake

Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture briskly for 30–45 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted. Stirring (rather than shaking) preserves clarity and the silky texture of a martini.

5

Strain

Discard the ice or water from the chilled glass. Double-strain the mixture into the chilled martini/coupe glass using a Hawthorne or fine mesh strainer to capture any small ice chips.

Garnish & Finish

6

Express lemon oils

Hold a lemon twist over the glass skin-side down and give it a firm squeeze to express the essential oils across the surface of the cocktail. Run the twist around the rim if you like, then drop it into the drink.

7

Optional floral

If using an edible flower, gently float it on the surface for an elegant presentation. Alternatively, add a thin cucumber slice as a fresh aromatic garnish.

8

Serve

Serve immediately while cold. Note: Empress gin’s color may shift slightly toward pale pink when the citrus oils are added or if a splash of citrus is introduced; this is normal and visually appealing.
