Method

Fries

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt. Peel the potatoes if desired, then cut them into even strips approximately 1/4 inch wide to ensure even cooking.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potato strips in a large bowl of cold water. Let them soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch, which helps achieve a crispier fry.

  3. 3

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels. Ensuring they are dry will help prevent oil splatter during frying.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to accurately monitor the temperature.

  5. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the potato strips to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

    Drain and Season

Once cooked, use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Immediately sprinkle with salt, garlic powder, paprika, and black pepper to taste.

  7. 7

    Serve

Transfer the seasoned fries to a serving dish and enjoy while hot and crispy!
