Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Cook the Ziti

Boil a large pot of salted water. Add ziti pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Sauté Spinach

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Add fresh spinach and cook until wilted, about 3-4 minutes. Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Remove from heat.

  3. 3

    Mix the Cheese Filling

In a large mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella cheese, half of the Parmesan cheese, and the sautéed spinach. Stir until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Ingredients

In a large baking dish, spread a layer of marinara sauce on the bottom. Add half of the cooked ziti on top, followed by the cheese mixture. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the cheese mixture. Top with the remaining ziti and sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.

  5. 5

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

  6. 6

    Serve

Allow the baked ziti to cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil if desired.
