Cocktail

1

Combine and shake

Fill a cocktail shaker with a small handful of ice. Add 1.5 oz reposado tequila, 0.5 oz Del Maguey mezcal, 0.75 oz Licor 43, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz fresh orange juice, 0.5 oz orgeat, 0.25 oz simple syrup, and 2 dashes walnut bitters (plus 1 dash Angostura if using).

2

Shake vigorously

Cap the shaker and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the exterior of the shaker is frosty and well chilled. This integrates the thicker orgeat and chills the mix.

3

Prepare glass

Fill a double old-fashioned glass or tiki mug to the brim with crushed ice (about 1 cup).

4

Strain and ice

Double-strain the cocktail over the crushed ice using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove any pulp and large ice shards. This keeps the texture smooth while still being on crushed ice.

5

Finish & garnish

Top with a light sprinkle of crushed ice if needed. Add 1 dash extra walnut bitters over the top of the ice to accentuate the walnut aroma. Garnish with an orange wheel tucked into the ice or a mint sprig for brightness.

6

Serve immediately with a short straw. Encourage the drinker to sip to experience the layered flavors: warm agave of the reposado, smoky mezcal notes, sweet-spice from Licor 43, and the nutty walnut/orgeat interplay.
