Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a coupe or martini glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while assembling the cocktail (at least 5 minutes).

2

Prepare espresso

If using fresh espresso, brew a 1 oz shot and allow it to cool slightly (10–30 seconds). If using cold brew concentrate, measure 1 oz.

3

Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add ice, 2 oz blanco tequila, 1 oz espresso (cooled), 0.5 oz organic agave nectar, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz coffee liqueur if using. The lime brightens the drink and balances the sweetness.

4

Shake vigorously

Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 15–25 seconds. A hard, fast shake creates a rich, frothy crema from the espresso and chills the drink thoroughly.

5

Strain and serve

Discard ice from the chilled glass (if used). Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove ice shards and espresso fines, preserving the crema.

Garnish

6

Garnish the cocktail with 3 coffee beans placed on the crema and, if desired, a lime twist expressed over the drink and dropped on the rim or floated.
