Dressing (Creamy mustard vinaigrette)

Method

Salad base

1

Prepare greens and vegetables

Rinse and dry romaine lettuce and mixed baby greens thoroughly. Tear or chop romaine into bite-sized pieces. Halve the cherry tomatoes. Peel if desired and slice the cucumber into half-moons (about 1/4-inch thick). Place the romaine and baby greens in a large salad bowl, add tomatoes and cucumber, and gently toss to combine.

Protein & cheese

2

Cook bacon

Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add bacon strips and cook until crisp, about 6–8 minutes, turning occasionally. Transfer to a paper-towel-lined plate to drain, then chop or crumble when cool. Reserve a teaspoon of the bacon fat if desired for the dressing (optional).

3

Boil eggs

Place eggs in a saucepan and cover with cold water by about 1 inch. Bring to a gentle boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to a simmer and cook 9 minutes for firm yolks. Transfer eggs to an ice bath for 5 minutes, then peel and quarter each egg.

4

Prepare turkey and cheese

Slice or cube cooked turkey breast into bite-sized pieces (about 2 cups total). Dice or shred Swiss cheese. Add turkey and Swiss to the salad bowl on top of the greens in separate small piles if presenting as a traditional Cobb layout.

Extras & garnish

5

Slice the avocado in half, remove the pit, peel or scoop the flesh, and slice into 1/4-inch slices. Thinly slice the red onion. Scatter avocado, red onion, and croutons (if using) over the salad in separate sections for a classic Cobb presentation.

Dressing (Creamy mustard vinaigrette)

6

In a small bowl or jar, combine the olive oil, Greek yogurt, Dijon mustard, red wine vinegar, honey, minced garlic (or garlic powder), salt, and black pepper. Whisk vigorously or shake in a jar until smooth and emulsified. Taste and adjust seasoning—add a pinch more honey for sweetness or more vinegar for tang. If reserved, stir in up to 1 teaspoon bacon fat for a smoky note.

Assembly & serving

7

Arrange components: If presenting in Cobb style, create rows or small piles of turkey, Swiss, bacon crumbles, quartered eggs, avocado slices, tomatoes, cucumber, and red onion over the bed of greens. Drizzle the dressing over the salad (start with about 3–4 tablespoons) or serve the dressing on the side. Finish with a light sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper and additional salt to taste. Serve immediately so avocado stays fresh and croutons remain crisp.
