Fried Green Tomatoes
Method
Preparation
Prepare the Tomatoes
Wash the green tomatoes and slice them into 1/4 inch thick slices.
Set Up Breading Station
In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour, buttermilk, and cornmeal mixed with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
Breading the Tomatoes
Dip each tomato slice into the flour, coating it completely. Then dip it into the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, and finally coat it in the cornmeal mixture.
Fry the Tomatoes
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded tomato slices in batches. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried tomatoes and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm with house-made ranch dressing.
