Tamale Ingredients
Method
Tamale Preparation
Prepare the Corn Husks
Soak the corn husks in warm water for about 30 minutes to soften them.
Make the Tamale Dough
In a large bowl, combine masa harina, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add chicken broth and vegetable oil, mixing until a soft dough forms.
Prepare the Filling
In a bowl, mix the shredded cooked chicken with your choice of spices or salsa for added flavor.
Assemble the Tamales
Take a soaked corn husk and spread about 1/4 cup of the tamale dough onto the center, add 2 tablespoons of the chicken filling, and fold the sides over. Tie with a strip of corn husk if desired.
Steam the Tamales
Place the tamales upright in a steamer pot. Cover and steam for about 1 to 1.5 hours or until the dough pulls away from the husk.
