If the bottle has been stored cold (cellar ~12-14°C or refrigerator), bring it to a gentle serving temperature of 16–18°C (60–64°F) by leaving at room temperature for 20–30 minutes. If it is too warm, chill the bottle in the refrigerator for 20–30 minutes. Malbec is best served slightly below room temperature.

Chill or temper the bottle

Set out two clean wine glasses. Place the cheese, cured meats, dark chocolate, and fresh berries on a small board or platter so they are ready for tasting alongside the wine.

Arrange glassware and accompaniments

Examine the bottle for sediment (some older or unfiltered bottles will have sediment). If present, plan to decant. If not, simple pouring is fine.

Inspect the bottle

Cut the foil cleanly just below the lip, wipe the top of the bottle with a clean cloth, and use a waiter’s corkscrew to remove the cork smoothly. Inspect the cork for off-odors or signs of leakage. Smell the cork briefly to ensure the wine is not corked.

Open the bottle

Pour the wine slowly into a decanter in one steady stream. If there is noticeable sediment, stop pouring when you see sediment approaching the neck. For young Malbecs with concentrated fruit, decanting 30–60 minutes can help the wine open and reveal more complex aromas and a smoother finish.

Decant if desired

Pour 120–150 ml of El Supremo Malbec into each glass (roughly one-third full) to allow room for swirling and aroma development.

Hold the glass by the stem and observe the color: expect deep ruby to garnet hues typical of Mendoza Malbec. Swirl gently to release aromas.

Observe

Bring the glass to your nose and take several short sniffs, then a deeper inhale. Look for blueberry, blackcurrant, plum, and secondary notes such as spice, chocolate or subtle oak depending on the bottle’s profile.

Smell

Take a moderate sip, move the wine around your mouth, and breathe slightly to open the palate. Note the fruit core (blueberry, blackcurrant, plum), mid-palate structure, acidity, and the complex finish. Consider how the flavors evolve after swallowing.

Taste

Taste small bites of cheese, cured meats, and dark chocolate between sips to explore complementary flavors: savory meats and aged cheese highlight the wine’s savory and tannic structure, while dark chocolate resonates with darker fruit and cocoa notes. Serve room-temperature water alongside to cleanse the palate.

Pair and enjoy

If you do not finish the bottle, re-cork it (use the original cork or a wine stopper) and refrigerate upright. Consume within 2–4 days for best flavor. Let the remaining wine return to serving temperature (16–18°C) before drinking.
