Method
Prepare Water and Coffee
Heat water
Bring 12 oz (about 350 ml) of filtered water to a boil in a kettle. Once boiling, remove from heat and let sit 30 seconds to reach about 200°F (93°C).
Measure and grind
Measure 2 tablespoons of whole coffee beans per 12 oz serving and grind to a medium grind (similar to sea salt). If using pre-ground coffee, use 2 tablespoons.
Brew
Brew with chosen method
Place the ground coffee in your chosen brewer (drip basket, French press, or pour-over). Pour the hot water evenly over the grounds. For a pour-over: wet the grounds briefly (bloom) with about 30–40 ml of water, wait 30 seconds, then pour remaining water slowly to finish in about 2:30–3:00 minutes. For a French press: add hot water, stir gently, steep 4 minutes, then press. For drip: start the machine and allow it to complete its cycle.
Serve
Immediately pour the brewed coffee into a warmed cup to preserve temperature and flavor.
Customize and Finish
Sweeten and lighten: Add sugar (start with 1 tsp) or simple syrup to taste and stir until dissolved. Add milk (about 2 oz) or heavy cream (1 tbsp) as desired. For flavored coffee, add 1 tsp vanilla extract or a pinch of cinnamon and stir.
Taste and adjust: Taste the coffee and adjust sweetness, milk, or strength for future brews (add more coffee grounds for stronger, less for milder).
