Preparation Instructions

1

Prepare the Bread

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter. Tear the stale bread into bite-sized pieces and place them in the baking dish.

2

Mix the Custard

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt. Add the whole milk and heavy cream, and whisk until well combined.

3

Combine and Soak

Pour the custard mixture over the bread pieces. If using raisins, sprinkle them over the top. Gently press the bread down to ensure it absorbs the custard. Let it sit for about 15 minutes to soak.

4

Bake

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.

5

Serve

Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, optionally with a drizzle of cream or a scoop of ice cream.
